El museo est\u00e1 ubicado en el lugar que ocupaba el edificio mexica que era parte del complejo del Palacio Nuevo de Moctezuma, llamado la Casa Denegrida por los conquistadores espa\u00f1oles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En 1865, el emperador Maximiliano decidi\u00f3 ubicar el Museo P\u00fablico de Historia Natural, Arqueolog\u00eda e Historia en este lugar, a partir de piezas donadas por la Real y Pontificia Universidad de M\u00e9xico y el Museo Nacional y en 1965 el edificio fue adjudicado al nuevo Museo Nacional de las Culturas, dedicado a las culturas pasadas y presentes del mundo. Es el \u00fanico de su tipo en Am\u00e9rica Latina.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Actualmente cuenta con diecis\u00e9is salas de exposici\u00f3n permanentes y tres salas para exposiciones temporales. Algunas de las habitaciones est\u00e1n dedicadas a los objetos de las culturas prehist\u00f3ricas como las pinturas rupestres y los utensilios relacionados originarios de las sociedades sedentarias y agr\u00edcolas. Otras salas est\u00e1n dedicadas a la antigua Mesopotamia, as\u00ed como a la antigua Grecia y la antigua Roma.
